3 Reasons You Should Love The Middleman

Or in this case – your Health Insurance Broker.

Everyone dislikes the middleman. In fact many companies have eliminated the middleman altogether.  You may have heard of “disintermediation”, which is just a fancy word businesses use to define  “cutting out the middlemen” from the distribution channel to sell directly to the customers.

It works for many industries, but not for companies providing health insurance programs to their employees. Below are a few of the reasons why you should always use a ‘middleman’ when considering your benefits strategy.

  1. Expertise.  Just like with an attorney or a CPA who provides you with professional counsel based on years of experience and training, a broker can provide you with guidance on employee benefits and health insurance.  They can answer your questions and help you sort through the many options and legalities that can be very overwhelming, especially if you are offering benefits for the very first time.  Brokers will do the research, negotiate on your behalf and narrow down your best options.  In addition, they will keep you informed of new options and programs that can enhance your employee’s well-being.
  2. It Doesn’t Cost More.  Despite what you may think, using an independent broker will not cost you anything extra.  In fact, it will likely decrease your related expense because an experienced broker has access to resources, professional relationships and technology to help you find and implement the most competitive program for your budget.  (brokers typically are compensated from the insurance carriers they represent)
  3. Advocacy.  You always have an advocate for any questions that may arise, whether it be related to claims,  ACA compliance or general insurance.  Navigating the complexities of health insurance can be daunting and there will always be issues, but having one person to call that will take care of everything can give you significant peace of mind.

BOTTOM LINE-  When it comes to managing your employer sponsored health program, working with a broker is an important part of your business strategy that can save you a lot of time, money and stress
